My husband grew up on Jersey shore and we now live in Reno. We have twin 3 yr old children and plan on relocating back to the east coast before they start school. Does anyone have suggestions of safe areas with good schools? We hope to find something in N. Jersey or suburb of Philly.

My husband is a Sr. Software Eng. and we are planning on renting for the first 6 months before purchasing (if this info helps).

lots of places. You need to be more specific. Burlington county in Jersey, Bucks and Montgomery counties in pa is what I would recommend..

Not sure what specifics would help...Husband would need to be within 45 min commute for work (assume Philly is where most tech jobs are??). Home price we are hoping for is would be 350,000'ish. Main goal is safety for raising children, good schools, and resonable commute for my husband. Although my husband is somewhat partial to Jersey (his home state), he is aware of the high taxes and does enjoy Philly. I've never lived on the east coast so I am trying to get as much info as possible from locals to the area. I lived all my life (other than past two yrs in Reno) in Oregon, so I'm rather ignorant about the east coast other than yearly visits.

Sorry for being so long winded.....new to this forum thing.

A great location is the conshohocken or Plymouth Meeting section of the PA. It is about 30 mins to the city by trian and about 30 - 40 min by car if you have to drive.... The school district is Colonial and it is amazing.

we moved from pa to NJ to raise our Son.. What does that tell you?? Don't forget in Philly you will be hit with wage tax(4%) right off the top of your wages so so much for Philly being cheaper(especially at $350k home)

@Frank..We were originally looking at Cresskill and is still a possiblity. It is just a bit far from my husband's family and I'm not sure about the stress of working in NY. Love NY but not sure about commuting everyday.

You should be more specific. You moved from Philadelphia PA to NJ. Not too many people are moving from suburban Southeastern PA to suburban South Jersey (or vice-versa, for that matter) to improve their quality of life or raise their kids in a better area.

@BPP1999.. I don't mean to be all over the place but if you read my original post...that is what I am trying to figure out. Philly area or NJ?? Basically, my husband wants to move back to the east coast and I have never lived there. Main objective is to find a family oriented area, low crime, good schools but close enough to a city for commuting to work. Since I am not from the east coast....I truly don't know and that is why I am being open to either area. My husband grew up in Jersey but it was in Lacey/Lanoka Harbor, which I assume isn't big in the tech field.
