Good afternoon!

I'm a 23 year-old male, and am moving to PA from the Chicago area.

I will be working in Hatfield, PA. I would like to have a commute less than 35 minutes if possible (but the shorter the better!). I would also like to live close to downtown philadelphia as well.

I'd like to live in a 1BR apartment and am willing to pay anything from up to $1,000.

I'd like to live in an area with younger people with some fun places and a walkable restaurant/bar type of main street, etc. I like to go out and have a good time and play sports and outdoor activities.

I have done a lot of research but I do not know the areas well, but i have seen the name conshohocken come up a lot as a place to look into.

If you could tell me any great areas for my age where there are lots to do and near philly, but not far from Hatfield, I would greatly appreciate it!! If you know any specific complexes then that would be extra helpful! I look forward to moving there, and thanks again!!

Conshohocken is the only place I can think of that meets all your likes - commute time, proximity to Philly, geared towards younger people, access to outdoor activities. Other suggestions would depend on which one of those things you'd be willing to give up.

When you ask for those things close to Hatfield it leaves a big question mark over my head. Hatfield is a real quiet area. However, if Conshy isn't too far a commute it might be perfect for you. If you don't work in Phila. there's a benefit to staying outside of the cities borders. Mostly because of the high Phila. wage tax. Other things such as car insurance can almost double when you live in Phila. Those things don't even matter that much in your case because the more happening areas in Philly are just way too far for someone working in Hatfield. Shoot for Conshohocken. Another nice thing about Conshy is when you have a day off you live close to Philly. In fact, you'll be really close to Manayunk which is a pretty hip and happening part of Philadelphia. There's also good expressway access for a quick trip to center city. If Conshohocken is too far a commute i'd suggest you work on your cow tipping technique for a happening Saturday night out. Just kidding, it's not that bad but it doesn't have much for a young single person.

Another area to consider if you are working in Hatfield is Ambler. It's more of an up-and-coming area (actually, it's always been nice but it's finally transforming itself back into a somewhat fun place). It's a little closer to Hatfield than Conshohocken by about 10 minutes. It's certainly not the city but if you are interested in older towns with a somewhat industrial look it's worth checking out.

Actually, another place that comes to mind is Doylestown. It has a great downtown, and has outdoorsy activities nearby. The problem is that it's further out than Hatfield, and it's also expensive. Still, it might be worth checking out.

The problem for you is that Hatfield is kind of "out" from the city and many of the places that posters might normally recommend are not within commuting distance to Hatfield. Hatfield (and the areas surrounding it) are great places to raise kids, not necessarily great places to be a 23 y/o professional.

Another option could be living outside the city near Hatfield in a city with commuter rail accessibility to Center City Philadelphia. I'm thinking most of your nightlife/socializing will fall on weekends so it may not be that inconvenient to be closer to work where you travel to/from 5 days a week versus a one or two day a week social activity. The drive to/from Conshohocken on I-476 and the PA Turnpike is brutal day in and day out. I'd recommend Lansdale which is around 5 miles from Hatfield. Lansdale has a sizable younger/single population living there because of its lower cost of living and regional rail accessibility.
