Just got a job in Haverford across the street from Haverford College. Does anyone know what the commute is like from Mt. Airy? best route to take? I will be staying on Allens Lane near the train station so perhaps that might be a better option? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Mt Airy to this area in the Main Line has typically taken me about 30 minutes. I used to go Lincoln Dr to City Ave to Lancaster Ave. A caveat though, I only took this route on weekends - so I don't know what rush hour is like. And I moved out of NW Phila before the construction on Lincoln, so I'm not sure what that would do to commute times. There are likely better routes with which I'm not familiar to try to avoid traffic...perhaps cutting through Manayunk/Bala Cynwyd?

I think that is the slowest route you could take. Too much traffic, too many stop lights and choke points. Especially on City Ave.

Form Mt. Airy, get to the Green Lane bridge (Belmont Avenue), then use Conshohocken State Rd (Rt 23) for a ways to get to Montgomery Ave, then use Lancaster Ave (Rt 30), but as little as possible. The signals on both ends of the Green Lane Bridge will be the only choke point in this route.

There are several ways to get from Green Lane Bridge to Conshohocken State Rd, to Montgomery Ave (Rock Hill Rd to Bryn Mawr Ave is one, Levering Mill to Meeting House Lane is another, and there are a few more). I'd say try a few and get a feel for the best one based on time of day and traffic loads.

I agree. I used to commute from W Mt Airy to Bryn Mawr. Green Ln to Conshohocken St Rd to Montgomery Ave is the best choice. The longer you can stay off of Montgomery Ave the better, too. Ask the people you work with in Haverford for directions to Conshohocken St Rd. Taking City Ave to Lancaster Ave is the worst, slowest, most stressful way to go during commuting hours. The train take much longer because you have to change trains at 30th St Station, but its good as a back up in bad weather or if your car is in the garage.
