I am moving to Philadelphia to attend UPenn. My program starts May 23rd. I am trying to figure out when I should rent an apartment. I do not need to move until the beginning of May, but from reading other threads, it looks like many of the apartments will already be rented at that time. Is that correct?

The sooner you start looking the better I suppose. There are places going up for rent all the time throughout the city, so its not as though it would be impossible to find something... but you'll want to give yourself ample time to find the best place so you don't have to compromise later. I went and got a place three months before I had to move, just to be on the safe side. It meant I had to move a little earlier than I expected but it also meant I got the place I wanted.
