Seems like the wrong spot for a regional soccer stadium. I just don't see corporate sponsors buying luxury boxes to go to Chester, and drawing suburban fans will be a huge problem. Just a bad idea all around.
A professional soccer stadium should be built out in a suburban stronghold like King of Prussia/Horsham/Malvern where corporate sponsors and soccer moms are plentiful.
Chester? Its unreal that this even come up as a possibility. Cheap land sure but there is a reason its cheap - there is virtually nothing there- no restaurants, no shops , no gas stations and the threat of violence will always be there.

Chester is a great spot for the stadium!
Especially since there is an industrial boom in that City. For those who do not know, Chester has over a Billion dollar in investments. Here are a few examples.
Harrahs Race Track and Casino
Kimberly Clark
Chester Water
Water Town Industrial Center
Widener
Crozer Chester Medical Center
and there is more that I didn't mention.
Outside of Philadelphia, Chester is the best spot for a stadium.
11 minutes from the Philadelphia Intl. Airport.
15 minutes from New Jersey Turnpike
3 minutes from I-476 (Blue Route) Soccer Mom Highway
12 minutes from Wilmington, DE and the South!
3 minutes from 322
Also the Industrial Highway (291) connects to Rt 13.
Name another city outside of Philadelphia that is perfect for all connecting Highways!

The general idea of building a stadium is to have people pay money to patronize it. Do you see any local major corporations spending millions of dollars on luxury boxes to send their clients to Chester? Do you think the suburban families(backbone of MLS) from say Plymouth Meeting, Horsham, Cherry Hill are going to be traveling to Chester on a Tuesday night?
I just don't see it. I talked to a die-hard soccer fan from Lafayette Hill who has 5 kids on local soccer teams. I asked him if he would go watch a Philadelphia area soccer team play in Chester? His answer? A clear, concise, NO!

Regardless of what your friend say!
To be honest it doesn't even matter,..Why!
People said the same thing about the Casino, being built in Chester!
Guess what? It was rated the best Casino in PA and DE!

I am for the stadium in Chester, Pa. An established stadium will only enhance the quality of life in the Chester area and create hundreds of much needed full and part-time jobs for the city. Also, the stadium will generate tax revenues from an area that is currently not in use. The city is experiencing a revitalization that will benefit residents, the state and the county alike.

I'm sure there were some people that held similar doubts over in Jersey about Camden's ability to sustain an aquarium and an arena on the waterfront. Yet both venues are thriving. Granted, much of Camden is still very dangerous. I hear (although I can't confirm) that cops close off local streets and direct evening visitors to the highways and bridges after events. I imagine similar measures would be taken in Chester as it continues its revitalization.

What kills me about all professional sports is that they cater to the corporations and luxury box types, at the expense of the true fans. Why should clients matter? It should be about the FANS.
While I like seeing baseball played on grass...I'll always miss Phillies games at the Vet...when it was still affordable for the regular fan and dads with their kids to go to a game without breaking the bank....heck, back then, you could get free 700 level tickets on every pack of Phillies franks! Now you have to sell your soul or give your right arm to be able to afford a day at a game with some food, drinks, and souvenirs.
F--- the corporations and big wigs already.
I hope the soccer stadium is built, in Chester or anywhere in the Philly area, and that its a more affordable option than Phillies or Eagles games anymore.

I Have to admit!
I'm really excited, about the current news about the state backing the idea that Chester should be the spot for the new Philly Area Soccer team.
I have a couple of possible names for the team.
1. Philadelphia Commodores- After the name of the Bridge that is right next to the Stadium.
2. Philadelphia Highlanders - One of the Avenue's in Chester.
3. Philadelphia Atoms - Original Philly Soccer Team.
Chester is the first city in Pennsylvania.
Chester is the original place William Penn step foot on Pennsylvanian soil.
Arguably the birth place of the Hoagie.
MLS both Chester and St. Louis deserve a team!
Allow both cites to get a team in 2010!!!!!!
