Hello everyone - I have a job lead in philadelphia and am trying to figure out the logistics of staying in Jersey City:

1. Would the travel absolutely turn my life upside down?
2. What would my travel options be? Is there a train service I could use as opposed to driving?
3. What could be some other cities I could consider which would be mid-way between Jersey City and Philadelphia (The husband's work place is in jersey city)?

Really appreciate any info I can get!

In terms of transit, you could head over to Newark Penn Station where you can either catch Amtrak (Metroliner or Acela) or the New Jersey Transit train to Trenton at which time you'd switch to the Trenton line down to Center City. The former would take perhaps an hour and a half, the latter about two hours. Neither option would be inexpensive.

It may be better to ask on the New Jersey forum about mid-way points between Philly and JC.

Of course, I'm presuming that your job would indeed be downtown aka Center City. After roughly two hours of travel, making yet another transfer would be a pain, to say the least.

Ypu best bet would be to align yourself close to Trento as you can get a SPETA train to Philly or a NJT transit train to the PATH in Newark, rail to both is feasable from there, both a little painful

Thanks both. That was helpful. I had an inkling that this arrangement wouldn't work in the long run. Will have to search for a midway point like you suggested.

I know people who commute form near Philly to NYC or JC daily , they say its hard at first but easier overtime and worth it... It all depends on the person...

You have 2 Different Train options ones more expensive then the other one...

30th Street Philly

Option 1 > Cheaper , longer

1. Take the Septa Trenton line train to Trenton
2. Switch @ Trenton to the NJT Northeast Corridor line to Newark
3. At Newark Switch to the WTC PATH train (Across the platform)
4. Take that Exchange Place
5. All Employers are located to the left and right of the station with 2 blocks

Option 2 > expensive , shorter , you have to time your train connections right , missing a train can be costly... as opposed to Option 1....

1. Take Amtrak Keystone or Regional to Newark
2. At Newark Switch to the PATH World Trade Center train (Across the platform)
3. Take that Exchange Place

OK, so I forgot about the newer Regional name. At least I didn't say "Clockers".

Default Jersey City to Philly PA

I was wondering i you ever followed through with the commute and how was it? I'm in Philly and thinking of taking an opportunity in Jersey City (opposite but same) - please share the experience. Thanks.
