1st off, if any of you were born and raised in philly, then your opinion is not terribly valid on this topic.

if you have never been to Larry's Famous, i'm not sure if you have ever HAD a cheesesteak
if you said pats or genos? i have news....there are jokes in philly about anyone who thinks they make good cheese steaks. i.e. google top 15 ways you know you are from philly
i'd say a good cheesesteak has to be flavorful without alot on it
and lets get picky...the quality of the meat
while Abners on 38th and chestnut is a pop place to go to, there is a buttery tinge to their meat and its extra soft in ways that are outstanding in philly
but again, if you have never had a "bellyfiller" cheesesteak hoagie from Larry's, you haven't lived
and if you have one after you think the top 40 places are the best, you JUST MAY give up sex for cheesesteaks

The best hoagies I have ever eaten in or outside of Philadelphia have been at DiVello's Deli in Haddonfield. I know that's not technically "Philadelphia" but it's close enough I guess.

Does anybody like their steaks with marinara sauce? To me, steaks without sauce just lack something. You have to have chopped ribeye, onions steamed and cooked with the meat for the flavor, provolone well melted, sauce, with a chewy roll. And if the sandwich has too much meat, you know its just enough. V and S in Berks does a great job.
I just had a very wimpy little overpriced steak in Conowingo Md, at some place that was kind of like a Sheetz.

Best cheesesteak IMO is from Dalessandro's. Best hoagie either Boston Style or Dakota Pizza.

Best cheese steak hoagie is made by me... best lunchmeat hoagie is made by my mom... add some spicy curly fries and some Iced tea and that all ya need.. it's gotta be Amoroso Roll, loaded with mayo, ketchup and pickels. if it doesn't drip all over the place it's not a real Philly Cheese Steak.. i'm getting hungry thinking about it.

I hit up Tony Lukes if i'm in the area. they make the second best
