Miami has more impressive skyline than Philly and is alot more fun and exciting. There are more interesting people there. The nightlife scene is better in Miami. Miami skyline is much bigger than Philly's Center City skyline. Miami has better vibe than Philadelphia and is much more international and cosmopolitan.
Finger Laker, have you been to Boulder and Boise? I stand by what I said. Their downtowns are better than Philly's because you see all types of people and no vagracy in those downtowns. There are very few homeless people there and it's like you put the people and teenagers from King of Prussia downtown and have them rollerblade and hangout there. You don't see that in Philly with a bunch young cute teenage girls with families hanging there. It's mostly shady people and tourist and emptynester in Center City. It's not that family and upscale friendly like Boise and Boulder. Get real!
There is definitely some degree of vagrancy in Boulder (especially in some spots that are offshoots from the pearl street mall) - as there is in most college towns ... I used to live in Denver for a while and made it up to Boulder a decent amount .... it's very nice, but it's not even really a city downtown .... you can't come close to comparing the two .... it's almost a mirror of the commons in Ithaca ..... it's great to spend some time by the little creek and the library and then stroll around for a couple drinks & lunch when the weather is nice ...... but honestly, I don't think the entire restaurant & shopping scene could compare to reading terminal market
Boise is tiny - they have the little park area with the fountain, a couple hotels, some offices, the capital and not a lot else ... I'd go there on business and stay at the grove hotel downtown ... very nice and again a city I really enjoy (i've yet to drag my wife there) ... but it's very dead at night and again, just very, very small
I get that you like getting the locals riled up .... but don't be ridiculous

According to the "experts" at SKYSCRAPERPAGE.COM and SKYSCRAPERCITY.COM both Miami and Philadelphia are in the "top ten" of North American skylines. In fact some people have rated Miami's skyline as the third or fourth best in the US; so I will not argue about it.
What Miami and most other US cities do not have is the incredible richness of history and architecture that Philadelphia is blessed with. How many registered historic districts are there in Philadelphia and World Heritage Sites ... quite a few I dearsay! Tourists from all over the world come to see Independence Hall, Carpenter's Hall, Elfreth's Alley, the Betsy Ross House, the Powel House, the Physick House, the Old Swede's Church, the First and Second Banks of the US, the Merchant's Exchange, Christ Church, and all of the other Colonial-era buildings. Sorry but Miami does not have the charming cobble-stone lanes of Society Hill, Bella Vista, Washington Square West, Olde City.
What newer cities don't have - and Philly does have - is charm. Only the old historic towns like Boston, Annapolis, Newport, Cape May and the like have it.
How many of you relocated to Philadelphia from Miami?
Which factors made you decide for Philadelphia?
How long have you been living in Philadelphia?
Do you consider returning to Miami?
Which is the worst thing Philadelphia has... which is the best?
This is the OP ^. This is the Philadelphia forum not the city vs. city forum. Please get back on topic or start another thread on the proper forum. Off topic posts after this one will be deleted and infractions may be issued.

I lived 10 years in philadelphia and I loved it!
I lived 5 years in Miami and I loved it too! is all depend what are you looking for?
Philadelphia is a great city for friends, restaurants, walking everywhere, for jobs, the seasons: the spring and the fall are beautiful in philadelphia.
Miami is a great place for party, for the beach (when the weather is nice). you'll need a car unless you live in miami beach. ( which is a mini LA but with a lots latinos)
I'll visit miami but I'll not consider to move back... specially now with this economy. Everything is more expensive there and Jobs are hard to get.
I could write long pages about both places but at the end is what are you looking for>?
i'm not referring to a poll. i'm referring to a commonly held belief that philadelphia has at least one of the top 5 dts in the country.
if you disagree, please by all means post 5 dts that are better. go on any sensible criteria that you wish.
i'm not trying to boost philly's dt but honestly, if center city isn't good enough for you than your only chance at being satisfied is nyc because that is the only city in this country that is clearly significantly better.
the problem with your opinion here is that you live in philly. you have probably spent more time in phillys DT than any other DT, including Miami, which is what the OP was asking about. your opinion is biased, are we talking the best DT for living? for working? for shopping? you just can't say "we have the best DT and only NY is better". thats just silly.

i wasn't saying anything about miami's dt. and i also didn't say only ny was better than philly's.
miami is another that is often rated as a great downtown and when i've been there i've thought it was great. different than philly of course but pretty damn good in it's own way.
what i was saying is this. Philadelphia has the third most developed dt in the entire country. Philadelphia dt is clearly among this countries great down towns. rate it how you wish. but you're not going to find a way to bump it out of the top ten. going by any criteria, based off thousands of polls and survey's. no reasonable person would argue that philadelphia does not have a top ten downtown.
miami's is also probably in that top ten and a reasonable person might say it has a better downtown than philly. i disagree but i can accept that, that's reasonable.
but the person didn't say that philly's downtown wasn't as good as miami's he said philadelphia flat out did not have a good downtown. which is just silly. if philly's downtown isn't good, then that must mean there are practically no downtowns in america of any value as the only downtown that is considerably and obviously better than philly's is nyc. chicago too honestly. after that you can make the case for philly being third or about half a dozen other cities including boston, san fran, miami, etc. but none of these downtowns really stands head and shoulders above the others so if you really want to say philly has a crappy downtown... then basically you're saying every city in america has a crappy downtown other than nyc and maybe chicago.
get what i'm saying???
