Hi, I'm going to be moving from California to Philly in June. I'll be working in Horsham and have a part time job around University City. I don't know anyone in East Coast so I'm just wondering if I can get some advice here. I'm a single Asian and would ideally want to live closer to the city, but safety really comes first.

When are you moving? June
Where are you coming from? California
Why are you moving? Work
Where will you be working? Horsham/University City
Have you been here yet? For a day

Will you buy or rent? Rent
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Apartment, 700-800/Month
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? No Preference

Are you married or single? Single
Do you have pets? No
Do you want or need a yard? No
Are you keeping a car? Yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? In Between. Probably somewhere with good food close by

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Nightlife (Kind of, but not a priority)
Train or subway stations

Help is much appreciated!

TThat commute to U city is gonna suck. Look into Mt. Airy, West Oak lane, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, Abington.

If you were commuting to both places every day, you could try somewhere in between like Mt. Airy, maybe Lower Roxborough, or Glenside. If you are working more days at Horsham, I'd say closer to there and go Glenside or maybe Ambler. If you stay outside the city, you won't pay the wage tax on the Horsham job, which can be an incentive.
