Default Help! Concord Twp to Cmdr Barry Bridge - commute suggestions for back roads needed.

Hi,
We are moving to Concord Twp (Glen Mills area) shortly and I need to commute to the Mt. Laurel/Cherry Hill area in NJ. I noticed that Rt. 322 (Conchester Hwy) gets really backed up and the merge onto 95 N from the left lane is a nightmare. I heard that there is a back route using Concord Rd and then CherryTree Rd which will put me in the right lane of I-95, so I can exit off to Cmdr. Bridge easily. But I couldn't quite figure it out looking at the maps. I am hoping someone who is real familiar with the area can provide me some suggestions and tips on how I can use the back roads in that area.

I really appreciate any info that you can provide.
Thanks!

My husband commuted for awhile from Garnet Valley (near Booth Corners Farmers market, off of Naamans Creek Rd.) for a couple of years to Bridgeport, NJ and I know that he knew some of the backroads but it's been awhile since we moved. Do you have the ADC book map? These are great detailed maps. Better then any fold out map around.

Since we lived close to Naamans Creek Rd. I think he would use that to get down to 95 somehow. I would just never leave the house before 8am or between 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm if I could help it. I do not miss that traffic at all.

Depending what part of Glen Mills you are living, it might be quicker to use 452 through Aston. Take 452 S all the way till you get to I-95 in Upper Chichester(approx 5-7 miles from Glen Mills) Take I-95 N approx. 2 miles to the Commodore barry Bridge exit 322 east.

As far as Concord Road. I'd take Concord Road to Chichester Ave which will take you right to an I-95 exit. There is no reason to take Cherry Tree, Chichester ave is easier and quicker. When you com to the end of Concord Road there will be a 5 point intersection, its very rural backroad intersection/ stop sign no red lights. Simply go straight ahead, you will see a big tree nursery on your right hand side, past the nursery and about 1/4 mile you will hit Chichester, make a right, proceed 2 -3 miles and you will see signs for I-95. You want to go 95 North.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions.. I'll check out the Concord Ave-Chichester Ave back roads. Are those roads safe? How busy does Concord Rd get relative to Rt. 322 (which seems like a parking lot sometimes).

Concord Road is a windy, hilly road. Just about all local traffic, nothing like 322 at all. Chichester Ave isn't bad until you cross under 322 then you will hit some traffic/lights etc. but its only a mile to I-95.

Default Thanks for all the tips

I tried out the Pennel Rd (Rt. 452 S) route to I-95 and it was much easier compared to Rt. 322. Thanks rainrock for the valuable tips. Its good to know that there are a variety of options to get around in that area.

I lived in the area up until a few years ago and I'm still up there pretty often. Once you are there a while you'll find a few ways to get around and avoid 322. 322 does take you right onto 95 but then where it drops you off is really close to the exit for Commodore Barry and you have to cut over 4 lanes of traffic really quickly. Not the easiest task in that kind of traffic. I'd say getting on at Chichester would be your best bet.

That 322 to I-95 N exit has to be one of the most precarious I've ever seen. Its bad enough merging into the left hand land with 4 lanes of traffic coming at you at 70 MPH, but then you have to weave thru 4 lanes of traffic in a very short period to make it over to enter the Com barry Bidge exit. Thats a bad deal
