Collegeville - Philly: Where's a woman to live?
I've found the people on this form so helpful I couldn't resist to ask for advice. Any help is really appreciated.
My Dilemma: I've been in a long distance relationship for many years now and my partner is FINALLY coming from overseas to study, (for one school year) in Collegeville. Living accomidations on campus FOR HER ONLY come with her scholership. I am hedging my bets that the only place I can find decent work will be in DT Philly, (I work in the field of Media). My hope is to find a place where we can live togeather and she will use her dorm as office space.
I have a car and license, she does not.
We are both from very major world cities and enjoy urban life. . .
Where can we live so that she can get to school and I can get to work and we will feel comfortable in our surroundings as two woman living together?
Any recommendations on how to find housing?
Thanks for any input.

I would check North wales and Lansdale (or any othercommunities in that area on the R5 train line.
SEPTA
You can take the train to center city Philly, and your partner won't be too far from campus (I assume Ursinus?)

Eastish???? Not sure what you mean, or why you think the R6 line would be better. On the R5, North Wales, for example is pretty much the same distance (via train) to center city Philly in one direction and to Collegeville in the other.

If you want to live an urban lifestyle really your only option is center city Philly,University City or perhaps Manayunk.

O.K, Now I'm starting to see what you are saying, however, Norristown (R5)seems like a smaller clip to Collegeville. Would there be good public transit from Lansdale to Collegeville?
Thanks again for the input.

I really doubt it. But call SEPTA and ask. 215-580-7800
ETA - I would ask if any public transportation went to Collegeville from anywhere and work from there. I had assumed your partner would be driving. You will probably have better luck finding public transportation to center city from most locations, than she will to Collegeville.

While using the SEPTA "Trip planner" I learned that the fastest route from Collegeville to city centre is via bus 39 to Norristown (about 30-40 min) and then R6 to city centre (about 45min). Currently, I am considering the Manayunk option. Would this be a far better bet than say Conshohocken which would be more equidistant?

SEPTA has a few routes that run from the Norristown Transportation Center (where it intersects with the R6 train, the Route 100 trolley and a boatload of other bus routes) into Collegeville.
Good luck!

Manayunk is a great option. Very arty, great restaurants (can I assume that when you say city centre, you are talking about center city Philadelphia?)
