Well for me, skyscraper is something that rise above or around the height of Comcast Center (700 ft-ish).
In a way, to balance out the tall structures already out there.

I think 10 story building is less than 250 ft range? Haha..I am not good with measurement I admit.

1. Comcast Center is 975ft, not 700ft.
2. Skyscrapers are buildings over 330ft (according to Emporis) Most people go by 400ft.
3. 10 story buildings are traditionally around 100ft, I couldn't imagine many being above 200ft, except for special buildings like City Hall, which is 500+ft but only 9 floors.

It is doable however. For instance, the new Family Court Building under construction at 15th and Arch will be 15 floors and 265 feet. So it is possible that a modern 10 story building could be over 200ft with todays LEED Certification standards.

Also, the original definition of a skyscraper initially was anything over 12 stories. Today, anything over 12 stories is usually considered a highrise. Anything over 328 feet is considered a skyscraper and anything over 984 feet is a Supertall Skyscraper.

I like to use 300 feet because 328 feet is a slightly weird number so I round down. If you would tell any normal person that 300 feet is not a skyscraper they would laugh in your face.... which is why I use that as the lowest requirement.

BTA88.
Thanks!

Wow i did not know that Comcast building was taller!
So yeah with that definition in mind; 300 ft would be around 30 story high. Yes I can see that as a skyscraper! Again I apologize if I am horrible with height!

On another topic, I went to other non-Philadelphia and non-PA forums just to look around. And I am so glad and proud that we here in Philadelphia forum are cordial and civil! GO PHILLY!

30 stories is usually around 330ft high if it is a residential building.. however, a 30 foot high office tower with LEED Certification can be 500 feet high

I'd love to see a 30 foot high office tower that is 500 feet high. That'd be surrealism at its best.

No problem Hopefully the city will fill in with a couple dozen buildings over 600ft and we can stop worrying about the appearance of the 300 footers
