It's going up really fast. It could be done by the end of next week. It looks like stargate.

Well, it's too bad about that new fake old building that's going up in the Shirt Corner site...
but THIS is a great project for an historical location. Totally consistent with the masterplan, doesn't kill waterfront views for its own sake, and cost-friendly to boot!

Normally i would hate a CVS chain retail in that prime corner but it if helps to get the building rehabbed and sell those units upstairs, im all for it.

I'd be ok with it if they were just rehabbing upper floors of buildings. But my understanding is that they are actually demolishing three buildings and replacing them with fake faux-historical reconstructions.

Considering how actually historically significant it is, that area has waaaay too many fake historical buildings around diluting the real stuff. IMO at least.
If you have to build new stuff around there, build new stuff looks new, and that respects the old stuff without masquerading as old stuff.
That whole area should be treated much much more carefully than it has been, considering how important Philadelphia's historical legacy is. Or should be.

Guys. This is Old City. Let's not forget that. Home to one of the largest NIMBY populations in the country. The same NIMBYs that practically killed a 16 story building next to the Ben Franklin Bridge because they would rather have an empty lot and "views of the bridge" than a new building with more residents and ground floor retail. This building is a step in the right direction. It is urban with retail fronting Market Street and will rehab an ugly abandoned decrepit block in Old City and fill it with 59 new residents. I say it's a great project.

Pretty low standards for "great" if you ask me. It's a mediocre forgettable project at best. And personally I don't think that "more! bigger! higher!" should always the default answer for what is best for Philadelphia. Old City is one of the most important (and thanks to crappy stewardship by the Historical Commission, most endangered) historical districts in the entire country. Development should be kept in check there. This is Philly's most important stuff, and once stuff like that is gone, it's gone.
