It is usually possible to put kids under the cut-off date into private kindergarden and then he would be able to enter 1st grade at a public school the next year. However, he will be one of the very youngest in his class. Do you really want that? The cut-off is there so that the children will be mature enough to sit still and learn. The way the elementary schools are set up now, it's usually not a good idea to put a child into the system before they are of age, especially boys.

Pennsylvania allows day care centers to get certified to teach kindergarten. My children attend a day care that has a class.

Areas that have 1/2 day kindergarten seem to have more certified centers because working parents need an option.

Hope that helps.

All the best,

Will
