Good post! Some positivity for a change. My go-to spot to relax and achieve some emotional clarity is the Delaware River. There are number small protrusions of land that jut out along the walkway throughout Del Ave and further north. There's something about moving water that is just calming in it's very nature. And, if you know your history, you can stand in the very spots where the first settlers came to our country and Indians and European immigrants met for the first time, visually picture the bathing houses from the late 19th/early 20th century, envision what the river looked like before it was dredged and channeled. Consciously realizing how minuscule our individual woes are in relation to society as a whole always help me put things in perspective.

I really like Roosevelt Park in South Philly (across Broad St from the stadiums). There is a winding road that goes around the perimmiter and it has a golf course, lake, ball fields and tennis courts. On a nice day I like to park under a tree and eat my lunch (often from Checker's at 19th and Oregon) and on the weekend you see families bar-b-quing and having picnics. If you don't have a car you can easily walk from the Pattison Av subway stop.

When I use to live in South West Philly,I would go to Roosevelt Park all the time.My daughter love feeding the ducks and she learned how to ride a bike there. Now she wants a car,man time goes by too fast.

Biking down to the Navy Yard, riding slowly around the derelict houses (and the newly commercially restored houses, too), riding near the big, hulking, derelict ships, staring inside the super-fly new corporate headquarters inside the former headquarters, and going to the southernmost point of Philly, and staring at the wide expanse of the Delaware across at the forgotten parts of Jersey... that's been my getaway spot.
