All you have to do to make a decision on this issue is look at the kool-aid drinking posters who're falling for the Mayor Nutter / "philly weekend" ads propiganda. None of them can refute the facts that vast area's of this city is now a teenage wasteland and business exodus is on. Maybe it can be turned around yet, who knows this is the city of ROCKY BALBOA after all, but those are there long-shots. Generally if you're are a better you got to put the money on decline ... 20yrs back there were folks saying another great city is on the upswing, etc, new jobs etc, even software companies were given big $$ to go there, u know that city - DETROINT. Nuff said.

Yes. Vast areas are in bad shape. That was true 20 years ago and it's true now. What has changed is that the core is stronger and growing and that is radiating out. I get it that parts of the Northeast are declining, but you need to look at the bigger picture. Honestly, from the day I moved here and started meeting all these doomandgloomadelphians I just never understood the mindset. It's just so self-defeating. Quite honestly, I really find the whole attitude a relic of a former time and not relevant to the city today. Please do yourself a favor and move to New Jersey. You'll be happier. We'll be happy for you. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Stop insulting the people who aren't ridiculously negative about things like you are.

None of us are "drinking Kool-aid" about anything. More than a few of us are actually from the area.

There are problems, sure, but not even remotely on the level that you're making them out to be. Certain areas are very bad or are going that way, but as has been pointed out, the core is what is changing, and it continues to grow outward.

Agreed.

Except about the NJ thing. If he wants to live in Philadelphia then that's his right, especially if he was born and raised.

That video is great and all....... I guess. .

But when comparing philly to other cities in the mid-atlantic, it just seems like nothing is going on. The riverfront.....they've been trying to develop it for decades. . literally decades.

go to places like NYC and see the difference, boston, DC..... hell, even look at Atlanta.....
they've don't have nearly as much blight and decay as philly.

Philly is closer to detriot than other metros.

I don't see it as up or down, just moving it around. Neighborhoos deteriorate until the Real Estate is worthless, then a developer comes in and gentrifies and the process starts over

The kool-aid drinkers just can't be satisfied, I put there facts in my posts which can't be refuted so they resort to personel attackes. Everyone be carefull of hidden vested interests in the 2004-2008 period before the financial meltdown lot of investors and realestators came to this area with $ thinking its the next harmel. It isn't and now they're stuck like the locals. Any chance they get the pump it up rah rah rah "do philly on the weekend" etc. But the reality as the locals know is there crime etc is rampant. Ever walked around town and seen transients do poo on the sidewalk? You'll see that in philly, now tell me - is that a town going up?
