Hello,

I am trying to understand if Philadelphia is a growing city or actually slowing down;

Some statistics shows that areas like Port Richmond has seen an increase indemographic of 10%+ while in some other areas like west Philly population moved out.

Do you think Philadelphia in the next 10 years will grow in population/economic?
or do you expect it to go down and people to move out?

Thank you ;-)

Philadelphia especially in it's core is a growing city. There is no reason to believe that this will stop any time soon.

It si doing both and has been, likely the trend will continue wit more areas growing than shrinking, albeit slow overall

On the economy, again expect slow growth

I feel like Philly lacks vision for the future. It's a bit stagnant.
I'm not trying to talk bad on Philly, but it's like...... slow...slow development, slow growth, slow population gain. . . . . theres no energy. no umph! no real vibe. . . like NYC has, Like Miami has, like DC has..... I dunno
amirite or amirite?

Down, big time.

I think the population has gotten significantly smaller every decade or so. Around the 1950s or so I think Philly was well over 2 or 3 million, now it's lingering on 1.4 or something like that.

Plus, let's face it, most of the city sucks as far as living conditions are concerned. I don't think i'd live anywhere there with the exception of center city or my beloved East Oak Lane. Everywhere else is pretty bad' North Philly, South Philly (except around the stadium), North East is OK, West Philly and South West Philly look like Beirut via the 1970s.

I grew up there in the 80s until the late 90s, then moved to nyc...seems like things have actually gotten worse there as bad as those two decades were.

Being exposed to Manhattan on a day to day basis for so long, It simply amazes me how wasted the commerical real estate in center city is like on Market St, Chestnut etc. Woolworths/Strawbridges closed a few years back and now there's nothing really to go there for except for Reading Terminal.

correct. Between 1950 and 2000, the city lost 554055 people. Most everyone I know who were lifers have moved out..Thats why the outer ring burbs have flourished since 1950 when it was mostly farms. Mostly, the only population growth are the ghetto rats popping out kids at an alarming rate. If it was not for then the city would have lost even more since 1950

Let's start here. Philadelphia gained population during the last decade.

The only two neighborhoods you like are East Oak Lane and Center City? Ok, so you haven't seen Bella Vista, University City, Cedar Park, Queen Village, Spring Garden, Fairmount, Fishtown, or Port Richmond then? You haven't seen any of the other good blocks across this entire city? This is a very narrow view and, imo, incredibly disrespectful to those of us who live in and contribute to making our communities as good a place to live in as we possibly can. You owe Philadelphians an apology for this statement.

Worse from what standpoint? Crime? No, actually crime has gone down, sorry.

I'm not even going to say anything, just refer you to this article that refers to the areas you mentioned.

Check out kidphilly's Philly 2035 thread to see just how bad the city is doing.
