Try 19148 which is south Philly east of Broad, Pennsport, Whitman etc. on Find Real Estate, Homes for Sale & Houses for Rent on Realtor.com - Realtor.com®

This looks promising and they claim it has 2 (count'em) baths!

Yeah.. those are typical 3/1 homes. This is one of the smaller one so they probably converted one of the smaller bedroom to a 1/2 bath.

Price is on the high side but assessment could probably come in the high 70Ks. Resale value is not going to be good on it because of the 2 bedroom.

Looks to be in nice condition.

oneblock: If you go a bit further up around 8th St, there are a few homes in that area.

As a general rule, you should not seek to live on blocks that get "shout outs" in rap songs.

I was on Cecil B, Broad Street, Master, North Philly, South Philly, 23rd and Tasker.

He was just referring to the fact that he'd been around a lot of areas in the city. The official lyrics say "I was on Cecil B, Broad Street, Master, North Philly, South Philly, 23rd, Tasker"

Jay Electronica - EXHIBIT C lyrics

I mean, not all sections of Broad Street are ghetto.

But in any case, the area around 23rd Street & Tasker Street is pretty ghetto. I think on that safety map, it is referred to as "The heart of Point Breeze", rather than the outskirts (by Washington Street and by Broad Street), which are safer.

Some of the Point Breeze area known as "Newbold" is not bad, I live in this area, a block off Broad (15th), I have one of the best beer bars and a great coffee\beer store both on the same block as me. Yes, there are some shaky areas up a few blocks, but if you stay between Broad to maybe 16th, anywhere between Snyder to about Tasker st, it's not bad at all...in fact, the area has made HUGE improvements in the past 3 years! Check into this area, you can probably find something in your price range also.

Agreed. You want to stay in either the northern parts of point breeze...right under Washington and no furthur south than Reed; no furthur west than 19th. I would also advise a roomate for possibly affording more s/f as well as safety. That area is changeing rapidly but you will need your coonskin cap and musket for a few years.
Problem is with your budget of 100K +/-, you are not going to get too much in the better areas. Many people talk about Newbold which is very nice...right around the Philly Tap Room...go 3, 4 blocks anywhere but east and you get into sketchy blocks.
Whitman is very safe but mass transit to center city will take longer. Avoid most of 4th to 8th street anywhere below Snyder and include 6th to fourth pretty much the whole length.
City changes on a dime

If you want affordable and don't mind fighting it out for about 5 or so years, go west of broad into the heart of Point Breeze like i did 2 years ago. the payload in 5-10 years will be mighty. new homes and rehabbed houses are are popping up like mad. 17th & South was dangerous 10 years ago. now you can't get a home under $400K. bar the windows, get an alarm system, a dog, security lights front & back and a gun.
