I am a 60 year old widow moving from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. I have been looking at condos in Hershey's Mill 55+ community. Would welcome any insights into this community.

My cousin (in her 60's at the time) moved sight-unseen from the West Coast to a 1-BR condo that her daughter picked out for her. She loved it. The community's been there for quite awhile, so many of the places are dated and may need renovation. Check the condo fees -- if I recall correctly, they're pretty high due to all the amenities the community offers. Not sure what the average age is, may be quite a bit older than you. Regardless, it is a beautiful community in a great area that's accessible to the city as well as the rolling green countryside in Chester County.

Appreciate your input. I haven't seen the place, but my daughter scoped it out and echoed your sentiments; lovely but a bit dated. I'm torn, do I want to be the youngest one in the community or the oldest? Walkers vs Tot Lots. Its a bit stressful.

Hershey's Mill is awesome. What are these people talking about? It's perfect. I have appointments with my clients in there weekly. Safe, nice, great location to Rte. 100,202, town of West Chester, Exton Shopping.

Farrell, I know what you mean. I considered moving to Laguna Woods, an enormous over-55 in CA where the average age is...<gulp> 75. When I went to look at some units with a real-estate agent, the first resident I saw was getting wheeled out to the handicapped van. However, I don't move into a neighborhood to become friends with my neighbors. What I cared about was the location, price of the units, the condo fees and the amenities (e.g., pools). Is your daughter and family nearby? Do you drive? If so, who cares if the neighbors are old(er than you)? At least they're (usually) quiet, and you'll be the young whipper-snapper. At my mom's community in FL, I have found that many baby-boomers are moving in, now that the original residents have moved on...so to speak. When my cousin lived at Hershey's Mill, she didn't participate in any of the activities, but she appreciated living in such a beautiful, safe community that was close to her family. The only thing I think she worried about was the monthly fees, which were tough since she was on a fixed-income.
