You are going to be fine and you are going to have a BLAST. Since Philly is a lot smaller than NYC, my cab ride fees were SO much cheaper. During the day you totally have to get a Phlash Bus pass. You get to ride the cute trolley bus as much as you want and it drops you at all the tourist places. It is a great way to get a layout of the city and if you get t ired of walking , you just wait at the nearest phlash stop (only about 15 min) and you are good to go. DO NOT go on that damn duck boat. South street is always fun and cops are everywhere. Not because it is not safe, because drunk yuppies from Ohio are extremely stupid.

I don't know whether to be offended by that last statement or not (I'm from Ohio).
I went to Boston over the summer and refused to take the duck boat tour and I'll be doing the same in Philadelphia. I'll definitely get a Phlash Bus pass. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

People who write online stories (or really any stories) are probably from the suburbs. Unless you go to a particularly dangerous part of the city or metro then all you need to do is have street smarts and not run your mouth or try to get your back up like you're some tough person if you aren't. That's why a lot of people get their a$$es whooped, no matter how many sob stories they may like to tell to anybody who will listen. If you look for a fight, in any part of the metro that isn't filled with money, then you're going to find one. Otherwise just stay out of the actual ghetto and be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.
