It's a shorter drive and less congestion from Mount Laurel. I used to intern in the city then have to drive to Mount Laurel for my job...and it's a lot easier considering all the traffic I see to 476 when I drive home on the Schuylkill westbound.

Enjoy your stay!

I was initially thinking the same thing. After reading over the OP again, however, I noticed:

I agree that neither are ideal, but between the two, Mt. Laurel is definitely the better bet.

yup, you got it. most hotels in the city won't accommodate us comfortably. unless they are really that bad? when you say they suck, is it; old, dump, ghetto, or?

The hotels in Mt. Laurel to Independence Mall is 30-35 minutes unless there is a major traffic delayed. I do this commute every morning at around the same time (7:45-8:00). This is a better choice between the two because Independence Mall is at the edge of the city torward NJ. You do not want to be going through the city during traffic hours.

I would also suggest that once you cross the bridge into Phillly, get on 6th street (right hand lane, basically stay on the right hand lane on the bridge to avoid congestion of traffic for those getting on the vine street expressway). Park you car in the Visitor Center garage (Between Arch and Market Street on 6th street). It's a self serve parking lots (use credit card to get in, same credit card to get out). You can elect to get a ticket and pay at the kiosk before leaving but not the quickest way to get in/out.

When you are ready to go back to NJ, exit the garage and turn left on 5th street. The entrance to Ben Franklin bridge is just straight ahead.
