Philadelphia is by far my favorite city. Compared to other places (Chicago, NYC) Philly was late to the skyscraper party. Do you think Philly will catch up to them in the next 20-30 years? I know NYC is a behemoth but, is it a possibility for Philly's skyline to ever rival Chicago's?

Not Chicago's, but I don't see why it can't stake claim to a solid third. Its primary competition would be San Francisco, Houston and Miami.

It is not impossible, but it would likely take a huge boom in Philly to catch up to Chicago or NYC. I say that Philly is ahead of Houston and Miami, and could pull ahead of San Francisco with a few more super tall sky scrapers.

Philadelphia spent years and years trying to keep buildings from getting too high (remember the William Penn hat rule?) so I'm not sure there is much of a consensus that it wants to be in this competition.

I'm going to say maybe in 20-30 years it will be the third largest skyline in the US... maybe it will rival Chicago one day, who knows. It will never rival New York City though... nothing in the U.S. will.

If the Drexel Master Plan goes through , then yes and no.... I can see the Philly skyline becoming the same size of Downtown Manhattan or Jersey City but not Midtown Manhattan. I also think Philly will grow mutiple Skyscraper Forests , Center City , North Philly along Broad Street , Railyards and Camden Waterfront by 2030.... So Philly will resemble Downtown Manhattan which would = to Drexel University / Rail Yards , Downtown Jersey City would be = to Center City and Downtown Brooklyn would be = to Temple University and Camden.

If Philly could build more taller skyscrapers east of City hall then it could definitely help close the gap but even with that I still think that wouldn't be enough to catch up or surpass Chicago. As for catching up to New York City, you can combine the Chicago skyline with the Philly skyline and it still wouldn't be able to catch up to New York IMO.

What?? Lol... Philadelphia already has a much much larger skyline than Jersey City... I'm confused as to what you are trying to get at... are you saying Camden may be the same size as Jersey City and Philadelphia will be equal to Lower Manhattan? Saying Jersey City is anywhere close to Center City is a joke. You are saying Jersey City has a larger skyline than Philadelphia though?? Haha are you out of your mind?

Jersey City- 127 highrises
- 37 skyscrapers

Philadelphia- 363 highrises
- 76 skyscrapers
