First of all, gentrification usually doesn't affect the entire city, only the core areas. (A lot of the people that were pushed out of gentrifying neighborhoods in NYC just moved further out within the city limits)

Second of all, an area could be gentrified and be majority-minority.

its getting gentrified, but only in certain pockets. That is why is still majority black in this city. That will change in probably the next 15-20 years.

you know that 44% is not a majority, right? philadelphia has never been majority black.

"minority majority" (in this country) just means "less than 50% white".

This.

I don't know the size of Boston proper off-hand but I know the other cities and boroughs take up a relatively small space compared to Philadelphia. For example: DC has made great strides towards gentrification. However, one could fit four DC's into Philly.

Philly has never really followed national trends. But many neighborhoods are improving daily and some have already made huge strides.
Besides, The size of "gentrified Philly" is probably bigger than the entire cities of Boston, SF, DC, etc.

Philadelphia has seen considerable gentrification in recent years, though not as much as some other major cities. It is also important to remember that gentrification is not always completely positive for a city. Some neighborhoods in Philadelphia have declined and others have prospered in recent years. For every area that has seen substantial gentrification, there is likely another area of the city that has seen substantial deterioration.

For all of the progress that has occurred in certain neighborhoods in North Philadelphia (only in the sections close to CC) and Kensington, the people moving out of the old neighborhood are simply moving to places like Olney, Oxford Circle, and Tacony. It's simply a shift. Places in upper North Philadelphia, Northeast Philadelphia, and some suburbs have already suffered and will continue to suffer due to gentrification. Some neighborhoods are getting better, and others worse, so gentrification is not wholly beneficial for Philly.

Northern Liberties, Graduate Hospital, Passyunk Square are a few neighborhoods in Philly that have been gentrified... And just an FYI, there are many minority yuppies who are a part of this gentrification.
