Default South Philly and Families.

Something I have wondered is how welcoming are South Philly residents to families that move from out of state?

Very.

A lot of people move to South Philly from out of state, or out of the country even. It's got a good mix of old and new residents, and many of them are young families.

Much of South Philly is great and welcoming.

Stay away from the west side of South Philly between Washington and Snyder. I had the displeasure of driving through there yesterday. What a dump.

It's where all the hipsters/yupppies moved/are moving to. It's Philly's big "up and coming" area. People make the same parallels with NoLibs, the Loft District, Kensington, and just about any neighborhood seeing gentrification.

I live in the Passyunk Square neighborhood of South Philly and it it chock full of families!
And yes there are also of of hipsters and young professionals and artists and blue collars! It is a
Wonderful commutity! If you want to live in the city and you have kids, this has got to be one of the
best areas to live. I highly recommend it!

about 15 years ago a lot of people who could no longer afford manhattan and/or wanted more space to raise their children started moving to Brooklyn neighborhoods like Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, etc. in large neighborhoods. 15 years ago there was a stigma attached to the outer boroughs. Today some people moving to New York bypass Manhattan altogether and go straight to B'klyn.

About 5 years ago a lot of people who could no longer afford Center City and/or wanted more space to raise a family began moving to South Philly neighborhoods like Passyunk Square and Pennsport. 10 years ago there was a stigma attached to living south of South St., later it was Washington Ave. Today a lot of people moving to Philadelphia bypass Center City altogether and go straight to South Philly.

The same can't really be said of Northern Liberties because it's too friggin' expensive for most middle class families.
