Expect to walk for miles in unbearable heat and humidity. Bring water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

They have trucks in various locations that are actually legit indoor-style bathrooms on the inside, pretty cool concept.

The fireworks on the Parkway are beautiful. Try to watch them from elsewhere. Thousands of barely socialized youth descend upon the Parkway each year and act out. I saw things last year on the Parkway that have completely soured me on ever going back. The behaviour exists every year, but came to a head last year. I'm talking tourists and their young kids running in terror. Also the friggin channel 6 helicoptors hover LOUDLY over the crowd during the actual display. Very distracting.

Do yourself a favor and station yourself somewhere else where you can see the fireworks but don't have to deal with the crap.

Two shootings near the Parkway tonight - one of them by a cop shooting a suspect. I'm not surprised one bit.

Most of my posts are very positive about the city, but the roaches that come out of the woodwork on July 4th are just terrible. I LOVE fireworks, but based on last year stayed home this year. Based on these shootings I made the right decision.

Philly, I love you, but sometimes you really suck!!!!!!

2 youths shot near Philly's Welcome America event - abc27 WHTM

A 16 year old boy shot a 17 year old boy in the leg on the 1600 block of JFK Blvd. Cops shot the suspect in the chest. It was not at the concert... but I agree. This **** has got to stop.

All in all though, what a great 4th of July. The Roots really put on a great show.

Something definitely needs to be done because if it isn't, many people will stay away from the July 4th and other big events.

What's going to happen when they have the big concert in September on the Parkway?

And this is just the most egregious event. Of course you're not going to see a news story about the avalanche of uncivilized behavior that happened last night. I know it happened because I've seen it year after year, coming to a head last year, and ruining Parkway fireworks for me forever.
