Hey so I just moved to Downingtown after living in California for a long time. I'm kind of at a loss of what to do with myself. I telecommute for work so I can't really meet people that way as well as taking college classes online so that's out too. I feel like the two ways I would meet people I can't. I don't go to bars and even if I did I wouldn't go by myself.

Branch out. What are your hobbies, interests, etc? What do you like to do? What are you looking for? You live in a metro of 6 million people, most of whom live somewhere near Philadelphia and over 1.5 million of whom live within the city limits. There's plenty out there for you.

This might be a fun place to start, a Newcomers Club - About Us I was a member of this years ago when my kids were small and we lived in Downingtown.

Churches are also usually very welcoming. I think the big one just outside of Downingtown on route 113 has a young adult group.

How about ultimate frisbee? PADA: 2012 Chester County Summer League Wednesday -- Draft - Information

If you are an alumni of a college that had a football team, look for the local chapter and see if they have game watching parties.

Good luck!

You could try meetup.org:
Find Meetup groups near you - Meetup

I also live in Downingtown and classes at the YMCA are a great place to meet people. Don't overlook your neighbors either. If there is one you seem to click with, invite them for coffee or dinner and you may have a new friend close by. Oh - the adult book clubs at the Chester County library are always great too. What are some of your inetersts?

I would start with the Newcomers Club of Central Chester County. They have many different groups with a variety of interests. The group was formed specifically for people like you new to the area and wanting to meet people.
Another choice is the Brandywine Valley Ski Club which is more of a social club than specifically skiing. You do not need to ski, and they do a ton of fun stuff.

Thanks for all the great tips! I haven't heard of the Newcomer's Club that sounds neat. The YMCA also sounds like a good place. I looked into stuff for my hobbies, which are mainly animals (thought about volunteering at the shelter). I will check out some sports leagues too. It seems like there are always activities going on downtown but I never know where they are listed, in the newspaper perhaps?
