Default Wayne, PA...Embraces diversity or prejudiced?

Hi I'm thinking of moving to the area and I see it's about 98% White but hardly any other races. Is that for a good reason meaning, does that area have a prejudice history social wise?

According to statistical data available to you here on this website the average individual income for Wayne which is zip code 19087 is listed below for the 2004 tax year.

Averages for the 2004 tax year for zip code 19087, filed in 2005:

Average Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) in 2004: $134,670 (Individual Income Tax Returns)

Does one really have to point out the obvious reasons as to why the area is overwhelmingly white?

Well of course everyone's prejudiced because of their skin color and annual income right?!?!?

...

ook at the statistical data and feel rest assured that you received the correct answer to your question.

Wayne is part of a string of traditionally affluent communites known the Main Line for the common railroad line that runs through them. While socioeconomic history surely influences its demographics, I would speculate that perceived economic status would be more of an issue these days than racial/ethnic identity.

In other words: if you can afford to buy in, enjoy!

Even perceived economic status isn't a huge deal unless you're interested in impressing the small (but persistently annoying) group of Main Liners who perpetuate the negative stereotype.

Here's the basic lowdown: if you're a person of color in that part of the Main Line, while you'll definitely be outnumbered, you won't at all feel unwelcome.

I agree! I should have amended my last sentence to say: "...and a minor issue at that."

I used to visit (quite often) a friend who lived in Bryn Mawr and taught at the college of the same name. All the towns in that area smell of money. Lots of nice older homes but the traffic is a mess.

I saw quite a few blacks while there and no one seemed to care one way or another. What I didn't see were a lot (if any) Ford, GM, or Chevy dealerships.

$Wealthy part of the country.

I would say money is definitely what people care about these days. But I still wouldn't be surprised if there were certain neighborhoods that would look twice at a black family moving in, but not an asian or Indian family.

There are several mostly black areas in Wayne, by Highland Ave. and Mt.Pleasant. Anywhere else in Wayne, I don't think most people would have a problem either.

There's a Ford dealership in Paoli and a Chevrolet dealership in Ardmore.

The Main Line also is not universally wealthy, and in fact has a sizable conventional middle class presence, along with some lower middle/upper working class pockets (including parts of Bryn Mawr).
