Since this thread was revived, I have to add one. It cracks me up that people born and raised in South Philly pronounce Greenwich street, 'green witch.' I know that's phonetic, but it's not right. It's pronounced 'gren ich,' like the village in NYC.

There's a Greenwich Township in Berks County whose residents say green witch too.

There is a very sweet little historic town in South Jersey, on the Delaware Bay, near Bridgeton call Greenwich and the locals call it Green Witch as well.

Listen: I live on Baltimore Avenue, okay?! I've owned this house for nearly 15 years ... and I'm telling you locals call it Ballmer or Ballimer Avenoo.

You know, as in Ballmer, Merlind.

Maybe it's a West Philly thing.

I personally say Baltimore because I speak proper English and I wasn't born here but on Lawn Guyland, okay?!

Check this out. Worcester Township in Montgomery County is annoyingly pronounced wer-CHES-ter unlike Wuuss-ter in Worcester, Mass.

I'm really surprised to see any debate on Passyunk. Everything I've read points to Passhunk. It's an old native american word meaning "in the valley." I hear Passhunk by a lot of people and live very close to where drive carephilly used to (near Dickinson or "Dickerson" as he mentioned...haha).

How does everyone here pronounce "Quince"?

I know! My brother-in-law just bought a house there and whenever my husband mentions the town, he says war-CHEST-er because that's what his brother heard from the locals, I guess. It's infuriating!

I'm from the Far Northeast...nowhere near Quince St., but I would assume it rhymes with "prince". Am I right or wrong?
