I am super excited about the new BMW dealership coming to Monument Road, where Pathmark currently is.

The dealership it will be replacing (BMW of the Main Line, on Montgomery Ave) is an absolute dump, but BMW drivers like me are forced to use it unless we want to travel great distances to a better one.

1911 Walnut - This could be the location for a Bloomingdale's.

Quote:
Southern Land Co. plans to build a residential tower with several stories of lower-level retail on the long-vacant lot that it owns beside Rittenhouse Square, a company official said.
"Several levels of retail?" The site is 36,300 square feet.

At 4 floors of retail, that would total about 145,200 square feet.
At 5 floors of retail, that would total about 181,500 square feet.
At 6 floors of retail, that would total about 217,800 square feet.

The average new Bloomingdale's stores being opened range from 115,000 to 250,000 in square feet.

This site would be the perfect location for a Bloomingdale's or a Nordstrom being right off the square. Can't get a better location than that. SLC really has the opportunity to deliver big time here especially with the hiring of SCB Architects.

I'd love to get excited about it but there's the bit in the last paragraph about the presentation to "neighborhood groups and area stakeholders." Somebody in that bunch will fight it. Sigh...

I am excited to see what the design will look like. Hopefully an attractive combo of the Murano and St James and 40+ stories. My worry is that for whatever crazy reason, the neighbors will argue against height even though the tower will be on the north side of the square.

If a high end department store opened here, you would have that and Barneys right next to one another.

I am sitting here thinking "wow, that totally would explain why they put a sign on the fence that says "Luxury is coming". This just makes too much sense lol..

Right. How long did the same type of people fight 10 Rittenhouse?

I thought they were rebuilding the dealership building in Bala which is currently under construction.
Are they going to tear down the Pathmark on Monument for the dealership?
