What's up with the concrete barricades on Market Street?

Concrete jersey barriers are going up on sections of Market Street, Filbert Street and a few side streets by the Gallery Mall project. It looks like another round of renovations is about to begin.

The barriers are set up to help protect people while they tear down the outer walls of the Gallery

Four Philly-area Macy's will close this spring

Unfortunate news for area Macys.

Plymouth Meeting, Moorestown, Voorhees, and, Neshaminy Mall

Plymouth Meeting I expect will find a replacement quickly due to the huge traffic volume in the area.

I can see Macy's " brick and mortar" stores dying altogether except for the NY store. I held my breath, re the CC store, when I heard the news.

That makes me sad, I wasn't around in the department store hey day, but I much prefer going to them over the fast fashion stores (for the quality and the experience), and I only shop online when I don't have time to go to the actual store.

If Philadelphia or KoP Macys ever closed then the whole company would pretty much be going under because those are among the highest grossing per sqft.
I think Sears will be totally gone within the next decade.

I agree. I rather like department stores. The one thing Macy's REALLY needs to do is fix its check-out problem. I've always hated the way you have to search for a check-out counter. That's beside the fact that check-out counters there are unbelievably slow. There have been times where I just put my items down and leave.

Sears spent a fortune, probably, selling tv ads wrt 2016 Christmas sales. Why?! Boomers grew up with Sears because our parents shopped there. Nothing could get me to buy anything at Sears today.

Default Good news

Yay! I Goldberg is retaining a store in Center City. It's too bad it's current storefront will be filled by nothing more inspired than another Wawa. Still, that's better than another cellular supplier.

I. Goldberg to downsize into new space on Chestnut Street due to rent hike

There's already some plan/idea about what to do with the space in Plymouth Meeting. It won't be a store again.

Posh health club to take over Macy's building in Suburban Square as Ardmore evolves

A high end health club taking over the former Macys in Ardmore, as well as a West Elm I believe. Great news for downtown Ardmore.
