That rumor sounds too good to be true.

No way they have time to open a full sized store by the end of the year, at this point.

And Newtown Square/Edgmont especially do. That area is a 20 minute drive from the city limits, and Upper Darby is quite close. Upper Darby is Philadelphia in all but name. To get that point across, what could possibly be LESS "suburban" than the immediate area surrounding 69th St Station? That place is filthy and terrifying, and I really do believe suburbanites who feel "safe" there are delusional. I don't mean to play the race card but I feel people give me dirty looks for being white there.

Also, Philadelphia is such an old city with zero land available for new construction of anything, not including where demolition is involved. The variety of retail establishments in the city is very limited, so residents are forced to travel outside.
It is a safe bet to say that most Newtown Square and especially Edgemont residents do not associate themselves with Philadelphia, there is a snooty attitude out there. Upper Darby is an entirely different story.

A Bloomingdales in the Gallery is a dumb idea anyway. The Atlantic Building would be perfect. I would be upset though if Nordstrom or Bloomingdales opened an outlet store in the city. Philadelphia needs a full service high end department store not another clearance bin. For a city of this size it needs more than just a nice Macys.

More confirmation for upcoming Camper and Stuart Weitzman stores:

Who Else Loves Center City? - Real Estate Bisnow (Philadelphia)

Interestingly, the Camper store will be right next to Allen Edmonds. This is a great sign for Chestnut Street.

Wow awesome!
So I guess it is taking Scoop de Ville's place? (I think Scoop deVille moved to somewhere near Washington Sq?)
This is indeed a good news for Chestnut Street.
Hopefully they will have a nice interior design like its counterpart store in Manhattan and Brazil.

Center City office towers bolster retail presence

1601 Market St.: retail addition stay within the envelope of the 36-story, 600,000-square-foot office building. It will still entail constructing a glass curtain wall. Plans call for 7,500 square feet of street-level space that will expand two existing storefronts and extending the second floor office space by 20,000 square feet. That second-story space will be something of a glass jewel box that will have 19-story ceilings and views that will usher in the urban landscape.

APF Properties’ plan goes to the heart of Center City District’s desire to see more retail and outdoor dining establishments along the West Market Street office corridor.

1700 Market St.: 20,000 square feet of retail space along the front of the existing office building.

2040 Market: about 16,000 square feet of retail space was carved out.

1919 Market: a 34-story mixed-use tower, about 30,000 square feet has tentatively been proposed for retail.

Vetri to the Navy Yard with the Brig

Big news for Marc Vetri:

The restaurateur and partners - with two joints in the pipeline - have a third on the way.

Vetri has just signed a deal with Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp. to develop a restaurant at the entrance of the Navy Yard. Basically, if you're driving south on Broad Street through the front gate, it's that building on the left.

Vetri initially said it was the old brig - hence the name The Brig. But Navy Yard officials now say it's the former guard house.

Vetri - who tweeted the news - told me in an interview that the vibe will be relaxed and that the menu will be "lunch-y" and will include rotisseries, sandwiches, pastas and the like. Large bar. It will be a dining option for the growing corporate population at the Navy Yard as well as for sports fans. The stadium complex isn't too far away.

The city has been marketing the space for a while.

Vetri is also moving his offices to the Navy Yard, which happens to be an enterprise zone with certain tax advantages. Jose Garces began enjoying similar benefits when he moved his corporate offices to the Cira Centre, also a zone.

This one is on tap for late spring 2014.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que scouting Philly?

I'm more excited about this restaurant news - hopefully this can do something to clean up that block of chestnut, which is a mess when you get east of Models, extending decent Chestnut shopping eastward.
