Hi there,

I have a job opportunity where I would work 3 days a week in Ambler, PA & 2 days a week in Wilmington, DE. I plan to live in DE if I accept this job. Does anyone know how long it takes to drive during rush hour from the Wilmington area to Ambler? What is the traffic like?
Thanks!

I sure dont envy you.

Thats a nightmare commute, especially in the winter. The middle part of the blue route around Conshohocken has 130,000 plus vehicles per day. I-95 just getting to the blue route wont be any picnic either.

You need to find yourself an alternate route on the backroads. 202 to 76 or 202 to 23 maybe.

Good luck. You are going to need it. The highways are a mess and the backroads are basically old horse trails. This area leaves alot to be desired as far as infrastructure is concerned.

Good Luck!

The commute from Wilmington to Ambler is going to take over an hour on a good day. When it rains or snows, count on 90 minutes.

During the summer 476 south is clogged with lemmings going to the "shore" on Friday starting at 2 o'clock. During the winter PennDOT leaves alot to be desired. I just spent the last 16 months commuting form Glenolden, near the airport, up to King of Prussia. My best day I made the 25 mile trip in 40 minutes (all highway).

Yes that will be a bad commute on the Blue Route if you are choosing to remain in DE. If you place yourself at a mid way pt in PA to live, you will cut your northern commute alot and the reverse commute on other days to DE will be alot easier.

If you definitely want to live in DE, then plan to learn another route like the 202 one suggested above...and plan to be in the car for more than an hour when you go to Ambler!

i drive from claymont de (PA - DEL border) to radnor in 30-35 minutes leaving my house at 6 and getting there at 6:30ish. IF i leave at 6:30 it will take 1 hour to get there. So do the math.

I Leave work around 3:15- I Get home at 4ish. I wouldnt want to leave work any later then 3:30. Especially on Rt 30 during school hours (villanova)

Your commute will be between 1.5 to 2 hours. To me it wasn't that horrible considering my father commutes from central VA to Washington DC with a 4 hour commute each way. And I also had a 3hr commute from Philly to NYC (Harlem)

Can he at least take the train? I don't think you'd save time but it would drive me insane sitting in all that traffic. Is the commute time down 476 to 95 really 1.5 - 2 hours? I can see that with traffic, but is that a worse case scenario?
