Hello! My wife and I will be moving to Philly in June of next year. I work for Southwest Airlines at the airport and she will be a nurse.

Ideally, we'd like to live somewhere fairly affordable (we can afford about 1500 a month in rent), somewhere I can use public transit to the airport (I don't mind commuting) and somewhere fairly safe. What are some of these places? Also, I am very into the artsy scene so anyplace where a lot is happening (like downtown or musuem or theater areas)!

Thanks for any advice you can give and God bless

You will be able to find an apartment in center city within your price range. I suggest the Rittenhouse Square or Washington Square West areas. You will be close to the train and can take the R1 directly to the airport. It stops in all of the terminals. Check craigslist.com for apartments in those two areas. Those areas are safe and center city is where everthing happens.

If you stay between Race St and South Street you're golden. The galleries are scattered throughout this area but there is a big gallery hub in Old City which is in the vacinity of 3rd + Arch.

The museums are located on the Ben Franklin Parkway. If you are into recreation/excercise there is an excellent jogging/biking/walking/rollerblading trail (Kelly Drive)that runs along the Schuylkill river behind the Philadelphia Museum all the way up to Chestnut Hill neighborhood(15 miles or so)

The University of Pennsylvania Health Sytem(lower left on the map) is immense so your wife might want to check in with them for employment.

The airport is about 5 miles SW of Center City.

Good luck
