Both rich Swarthmore and poor Sharon Hill in Delaware County are dry, or in other words, the sale of alcohol is forbidden completely. This really sucks because people living in Swarthmore don't have any places to buy wine or spirits closer than Ridley Park, which is a big step down culturally from Swarthmore. And to add insult to injury, the Ridley Park store is very old, run down, tiny, parking is extremely limited, it's closed Sunday, and many people don't even realize it exists because it sits in the middle of nowhere. Yet there's a space right in the heart of Swarthmore which would be perfect for a PLCB Wine & Spirits store. Right now it's occupied by a very small Shur-Fine grocery store that probably will close soon. I hope the citizens of Swarthmore change the dry law so a liquor store can open here.

Also, people in Sharon Hill could once travel to nearby Folcroft to buy their liquor, but that PLCB store closed mysteriously overnight a few years back. The space is some kind of cell phone store now and yet the "Wine & Spirits" signs are still on the plaza street sign! Now people in Sharon Hill have to go to either Holmes, Ridley Park, Eddystone (this store was once in Woodlyn), Lansdowne, Springfield, Upper Darby, or Southwest Philly to buy their booze. All of these are AT LEAST two miles away. What a damn shame. It's ironic that Sharon Hill is dry but Folcroft isn't, because Sharon Hill is bigger and less secluded from other towns. Darby once had a PLCB store, but it was destroyed in a flood many years ago. They were supposed to open a new one, but even when the new shopping center went up, the liquor store was missing. The old one still sits abandoned. There also used to be one in Prospect Park but it disappeared a very long time ago. Did all these towns (except for Sharon Hill) suddenly become very dry or something?
