Always bothered me that of all the great philly sandwiches it's the gross cheesesteak that is famous.
If cheesesteaks were "gross," they wouldn't be so popular, but you're entitled to your opinion. I like the arista, too ... it IS possible to enjoy both. I had a 50/50 (roast pork and bacon) at Jakes Sandwich Board last week that was fantastic.

That's a bit of a poor argument there, but cheesesteaks are up my alley! I haven't had one in Philadelphia yet, but they're popular elsewhere in the country. Geno's? No. Pat's? No. Jim's? No. I still haven't decided where I will get my first one.

Gross is quite the large spectrum. It may help if people actually defined why things were gross instead of making blanket statements which sound like they are asserting a personal preference as an all-encompassing fact, while "gross" is personally defined by each reader that happens to read the post. This is why America cannot communicate properly.

cheesesteaks can be good though i wish someone would make a mini (think half size) so i could eat them more often. i do orefer a good roast pork and theres more upside when its done right but steaks are still good. there arent a lot of places to get a good one in cc

I'm sticking with my point that if they were "gross," they wouldn't be so beloved. Put it this way: I don't like Thai food. But I'm not going to sit here and say it's gross, because if millions of people like it, it obviously isn't.
It's like when people say Lady Gaga is untalented and can't sing ... ummm, no. The woman obviously has something people like because she has legions of fans and there are thousands trying to get where she's at who never will. If you want to see untalented, go see some of the bands playing Kung Fu Necktie.

I think cheesesteaks can be gross when made mediocre or poorly, but a good cheesesteak will not be overly greasy. It also should be made with a real cheese like sharp provolone, not that plastic-y crap they call "Whiz" and "White American."

And maybe this will turn into an always popular "cheesesteak wars" thread.

Tony Luke's and John's Roast Pork's steaks blow, btw.
Im liking you more and more.. I agree, every time we have gone to Lukes we walk away disgusted.. Steves never let us down
