Hi Philly board! Completely new here.

I just moved to Lansdale, PA and am completely friendless. Not even an acquaintance to really be had on this side of the state. I'm excited to be here. I'm 23 years old, female, and I enjoy having fun. I'm going to start volunteering as a way to busy myself (when I'm not working around 50 hours a week), but I want to make some friends.

I know this is a smaller town, but where do the younger (maybe 21-35ish?) crowd hang out on weekends, besides going into Philadelphia? I'm not against hanging out with older crowds, but it seems that meetup groups are either VERY far away for a weeknight, or just don't match my interests.

I like running, animals, and any sports really. Does anybody know of any groups I could look to join? I'm very open and personable, I don't need much "comfort". I'll get right out there. Just don't know where to start!

There's a running club in Ambler, which isn't too far away and probably has a range in ages. There's also a running store in North Wales that hosts regular runs.

Check out this article -- it lists local restaurants and bars that have live music, quiz nights, and open mic nights.

A few ways to find/meet volunteers in the area: First Fridays should be starting up again on April 5th -- Main St. gets really hopping then! There are also booths sponsored by local volunteer organizations. Saturday, June 1 should be Lansdale Day, when Main St. shuts down and there are even MORE local organizations set up. You might find one that's interesting, or just meet and talk to the young people staffing the booths. Also check out the Lansdale Farmer's Market, starting up in May.

You may want to also post your question on the Facebook page for Lansdale Patch. It's a pretty active site, but there can be some not-so-nice responses.

And lastly there are some very active social groups at local churches and other places of worship that would be worth checking out, for making new friends.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will definitely be looking out for those events and probably joining the running club.

This is a little late notice, but there's a fun run in Lansdale tomorrow:
St. Patty's Day 1 Mile Race; 2:00 PM 3/17/13; Starts at the corner of Wood and Main Streets.

It's now an annual race run by Molly O'Briens: Details Here
