These socio economic and racially divided border towns are usually the most hostile to change outside the norm. The half that is doing better look at whats happening down the road a mile or 2 and do anything they can to stave off the advancement. The half thats doing worse obviously want to better their lives and find a better living situation. Unfortunately An awful lot of good honest people get lumped in with the madness.
Thanks for confirming what I rather feared. It was always a sense that I had. Conchy & Phoenixville are too far from my church in Chadds Ford - which I frequent more than once a week...but your DE idea is interesting. Gonna look into that, and thanks a BUNCH

If I had a choice in similar houses I would choose Aston but that doesnt mean Brookhaven is not a nice little town to live. And from what Ive been told its not going down anytime soon.

I was adding my input because i know every street and neighborhood in aston and brookhaven. I am not fan of any of the trailor parks in aston But If you travel by neumann college area neighborhoods like Indian Rock, Valleybrooke Chase, Ballinahinch, enclave of millridge, curry mill farms: those are all a lot of new rather expensive homes (maybe more like 500k) which were a great addition to the township in the early 2000s because it introduced an upper middle class segment to aston which also stabilizes the town. I mention them because people confuse that for garnet valley, but its aston.

I used to be an aston resident, and have some friends who are longtime brookhaven residents, they have noticed a change in the township for the worse over the years because times and demographics have changed.

Don't move to the suburbs. Find a place near Center City instead. Try South Philly, University City, Point Breeze, Fishtown, Manayunk, Roxborough, Northern Liberties instead.

Sorry, I'm strictly a suburban lady with 3 large dogs who need a decent-sized yard to run in.

Smile Brookhaven

Brookhaven is a great place to purchase a home. It is a small friendly borough that is pedestrian friendly, good taxes, lovely subneighborhoods with well kept homes and gardens. Brookhaven is the best kept secret in Delco. Brookhaven is a volunteer community this is why it has stayed such a desirable community. Borough council has been working to improve the business district. The business association has been discussing ways to improve the aesthetics of the business district. Brookhaven holds a variety of events year round; horse and carriage rides at the Holiday tree lighting with refreshments for residents, casino night, 5 k run, easter egg hunt for residents, strong in sports, summer theatre, family day free event for residents, craft fair, psychic night and coffee shop event with musicians from the Phila. Folk Society. I am sure I may have forgotten a few events. Brookhaven is 2nd only to Media in events held. The volunteers run the events, true community minded residents. Coebourn Elementary School is a National Blue Ribbon Awarded school. Penn Delco has been awarded a national music award. Penn Delco is 1 of 300 school districts in the Nation to be recognized with this award. So if you ask me Brookhaven will remain a strong community as it has been due to the wonderful people who live there.

Thumbs up Brookhaven

Brookhaven is a lovely small borough with well kept home and gardens. Brookhaven has a National Blue Ribbon Awarded elementary school. It is pedestrian friendly. Brookhaven is a strong community with many volunteers helping with town watch and activities. Brookhaven is 2nd only to Media Borough in year round events held. Brookhaven events: horse and carriage rides at the Holiday Tree lighting, craft fair, 5 k run, sports, summer theatre, psychic nights, coffee shop night with musicians from the Phila. Folk Society. Home prices and taxes are good. It has a safe Home Town atmosphere. Council has been working to improve the business district. Brookhaven Business and Professional Association is also discussing ways to improve the aesthetics of the business district. Brookhaven has remained an great neighborhood to live in. Talk to residents to find out about the community, not people who simply drive down the business district. You can drive into many communites in Delco and Chesco to find empty shops, Aston has had empty shops for many years now. You will find it to be a good quality living and you can join any committee to meet people. If asked I would have to say Brookhaven is a good buy for your future.

Aston is much larger community and had lots of land for new construction, the reason for the new construction higher priced homes in Aston. Brookhaven offers a variety of homes from small bungalow, epanded capes to larger brick homes built in the 1960's with sidewalks. Brookhaven has sold many homes over $300k. I know many residents who would disagree with the above statement of changing demographics?? Homes sales remain srtong and will increase along with the neighboring community of Aston as the economy increase.

Jus saying, But ya still can't get a drink (alcohol) in Brookhaven. Aston has lot more choices when it comes to restaurants and bars because Brookhaven doesn't allow alcohol to be served in the borough hence you will not find any popular chain restaurants or a bar.

I guess you are not aware that Brookhaven had a petition for a liquor license. The petition was successful and the vote will be on the primary ballet, if successful the final vote will be on the November ballet. The residents of Brookhaven want a local restaurant that serves liqour (80% restaurant, no pool tables). Aston is a nice place to live but Brookhaven is a small borough with many year round events for it residents. Brookhaven is small enough to know your neighbors, neighbors watch out for each other. Brookhaven has no severe crime, we have a young police force that keeps our borough safe. I visited Fishtown in Phila last month. Fishtown has $400,000. homes with trashy, scary homes on the same street and Fishtown is considered up and coming, ha! Brookhaven remains a nice home town as it always has been. There are plans in place to improve the aesthetics of the business district just as it took years for Media to become the place it is today. Brookhaven just needs a nice fresh Italian restaurant, it would be packed every night!
