West Philly is clearly in much better shape overall at this point in time than North Philly. This much is obvious at least to me. But to deny the positives of North Philly is foolish. Anything North of Vine and East of the Schuylkill is North Philly, if you don't think there are a million and one awesome places and things to do in North Philly you're not very knowledgeable about philly.
Lol! I rep'ed that one!

North Philly does not have an answer for Spruce Hill and the immediate surrounding area. Don't say Oak Lane because that's not North Philly (in the same way that Overbrook Farms is not West Philly).

So North Philadelphia technically starts once you cross Spring Garden. Vine St is certainly historically the Northern border of Center City, but I'm willing to accept it has changed now. Just like everyone used to consider Pine St (Vine to Pine, River to River, they used to say) the southern border of Center City and that border has stretched down to South St now. Spring Garden to South, River to River, is what I always say when describing Center City. I think it makes sense. It includes the Museums on the parkway and the up and coming "Franklintown" and "Loft District" neighborhoods. Also, the neighborhoods are pretty dense until you cross Spring Garden where the density drops off to rowhomes.
Well, I've never heard anyone define Center City that way before. It's always been Vine to South and river to river. The highway serves as a pretty clear demarcation. And to say the areas around the Parkway are Center City is stretching things, imo.

an answer? what was the question? yes, spruce hill is in much better condition than tioga but that doesn't mean there are no nice areas in North Philly. maybe we would argue that spruce hill and u city are really center city west now and shouldn't be counted. west philly doesn't have an answer to fairmount or spring garden let alone northern liberties, should those areas ask west philly a question.

Fairmount is right along the Schuylkill river, if it was any further west it would be in west Philadelphia. How in the world could you consider it North Philadelphia East? Also North Philadelphia East? In other words: the eastern part of North Philadelphia? yea that's still north Philadelphia buddy... it's right in the name.

The only question North Philly should ask West Philly is, "Hey baby, how'd you get so sexy?"

I meant Franklintown and the Loft District are more dense structurally with the taller buildings and the ability to build taller in the future.

As far as I'm concerned... these are the neighborhoods that are generally considered North Philadelphia
North Philadelphia Neighborhood Map - Google Maps

Some may consider West Oak Lane, Stenton and Cedarbrook to be in Northwest Philadelphia, some consider it as a part of North Philadelphia.

North Philadelphia East, North Philadelphia West, Upper North Philadelphia? It doesn't matter, it is all North Philadelphia.
