One crazy thing about Philadelphia is that the poor are EQUALILY Black, White, and Hispanic. You see them all. It's not just blacks in Philly. When your on public transportation all you see is white crack heads. (Sorry) and poor Puerto Ricans in North Philly, and drug dealer blacks on the streets selling dope to the white.

I'm not rasist

2/3 through the data. The highest correlation by far is income. As far as race goes, African American race is actually the least accurate of the correlators (save for mixed race households, but I only put those in as a placeholder).

But I still have a lot more data points to go through, so this could end up changing a bit.

Correlations Between Selected Variables and Crime Indices [R-sq Values]:

Population: 0.015318

White, Non-Hispanic Race: 0.168525

Black, Non-Hispanic Race: 0.448031

Asian, Non-Hispanic Race: 0.061911

2+, Non-Hispanic Races: 0.000469

Hispanic of Any Race: 0.000001

Median Household Income: 0.370360

So while none of the variables have an extremely close correlation, black, non-Hispanic race and median household income have a somewhat significant association. White, non-Hispanic race (and to a lesser extent, Asian, non-Hispanic race) have a modest, but perceptible correlation. Population, 2+, non-Hispanic races, and Hispanic of any race are totally insignificant.

For an explanation on what R-sq values mean (and what you can and cannot determine about a dataset based on them alone): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeffic..._determination

Greetings. Newbie here, looking at retirement spots and stumbled
onto this thread. I live in Indy. There are gangs here. Two years ago after an Indians game we walked
past the beginnings of what became a gang shooting. They gather at the downtown mall on weekends, and areas around the downtown canal can be bad at night. I live on the far east of the city. My edition is nice and quiet, but neighbors have had breakins and one was threatened with a knife. So Indy is not that safe. It's like any city though, you avoid the bad areas.
