Nice area, but the street parking can be tough.

I'd love to! And street parking doesn't matter to me. We don't own a vehicle.

For your budget I'd look in LoMo and Newbold. They're both diverse neighborhoods and since you don't have a car they'll keep you close to the subway.

I like how they improved the Italian Market in BV. A few years ago it was starting to get pretty seedy. QV is very expensive. Basically Society Hill South.

Yeah, QV and BV are going to be out of my budget. LoMo is looking good though I wish this darn heatwave would end so I could go exploring these neighborhoods more.

Okay, just saw a place south of Snyder around Third Street that looked promising (in terms of what we are looking for in a house). Any thoughts on this area? Didn't really see any black people around which made hubby a bit nervous. Checking out the area this week for ourselves, but any input beforehand would be appreciated.

Why not buy in a black neighborhood then? Isn't there a section around 6th and Snyder that's black?

It's not a problem if it is all white, as long as it's not because they are "unwelcoming" to others. Just used to seeing more diversity, that's all.

I'll be blunt - if it's all-white (esp in South Philly, near the lower numbered streets), they want it to stay that way. Trust me.

3rd and Snyder is an ok area. One of my favorite South Philly bars (McDaniels) a block away. Anything on Snyder west of 3rd is not so great. Pennsport would be better and will stay good if you can afford it.
