I have never heard anybody actually say anything about "Uptown" Philadelphia.

But there are several businesses along North Broad that use the name Uptown. And I've also seen it used in Germantown and Mt. Airy.

I'm not sure what the whole history of the term is, but at some point in the future it'll make a pretty good marketing campaign.

There is an abandoned building on North Broad St near Ridge Av that I have heard called the Uptown Theater.

There used to be a "Simmy's Uptown Inn" on Orthodox Street in Frankford. Otherwise, never heard it in my 44 years.

Uptown is pretty much just Germantown, Mount Airy and West Oak Lane. The term is fairly new but about 10 years old.

Once or twice a long time ago I've heard of western Center City referred to as uptown. It struck me as out of place, sort of like referring to The United States as the "homeland".

I always thought of it as North Broad Street or if this makes any sense, the downtown area of North Philly.
