Last year while driving and listening to WXPN, I heard this song. I was so taken, I had to pull over at the next Wawa and write the artist and song down, then forgot about it. I just came upon the scrap of paper and after finding it on youtube, I can't stop replaying it.

David Ford- Philadelphia Boy - YouTube

I like "Philadelphia Freedom", but Bernie Taupin's lyrics, written as a tribute to Elton's friend, Billy Jean King have nothing to do with Philly. The song is way overused.

Hall and Oates "Fall in Philadelphia" is a great song from local boys made good, but it's about wanting to get out of Philly.

Ween's "Spirit of 76" is great. G Love's I-76 is cool, but feels like a novelty song

Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" has, since it came out, been what I considered the best song about Philly. Neil Young's "Philadelphia", also made for the movie, is also great. Shame is, neither makes any reference to anything identifiably Philly.

But David Ford's song is absolutely gorgeous, it is the best song I've ever heard about the city. Best part is he is from Brittan, he's never lived here, but Philly is his favorite town to perform in.

David Ford talks about his song "Philadelphia Boy" (interview) - YouTube

The Roots, Dead Milkmen or Gamble & Huff never captured the city like Ford's song does. Petition Mayor Nutter to make this our official song.

What do you think?

Philadelphia Boy is dark and depressing and I hate it.
I'll stick with Sir Elton. Let's dance in the streets.

No city in the world has a song to equal it. It still makes me tear up with pride.

Not about Philadelphia as far as I know but it has the name of the city in the title and it was recorded here with Philly musicians!
