Also, my sister lives in Fair Haven, NJ so I can always go to the shore over there

Thx.
I don't know if I'd call Princeton intense, either. "Stuffy," maybe. The area has retained much of its old money mystique, even though it has diversified a lot over the years.

By any chance chance did you get to visit Chestnut Hill and The Main Line towns like Radnor,Gladwyne,Bryn Mawr,Vilanova,Wayne,Gulph Mills?

As far as historic, custom, character filled housing it would be like Doylestown x 100. Worth a tour although its a much different feel than Bucks County, Doylestown etc ..

I didn't. But, we are going to do another scouting trip in late May. Its on our list to take a look at. The research I've done suggests that Bucks might fit us from a 'vide' standpoint, but I want to see it first hand.

Thanks!

I've lived in Philly for 5 years. I lived off city ave during grad school and now the manayunk/Roxborough area. Ive lived all over the world, and I still have yo stand by that Philly is just not worth it. Even though the COL isnt nearly as high as CA, I think it's too high for what you're getting in this area. I'm not trying to bash Philly, but it is nothing pretty to look at. (Center city is one thing- im referring to the rest of the area). The drivers are absolutey ridiculous and the crime/shootings is really quite sad. Winters are manageable except they dont know how to plow! It's seriously pathetic for a northeastern city. They need to take tips from Syracuse NY, for sure.

Syracuse averages 110" of snow a year; Philly's around 22". It would be a waste to prepare Philly for the type of snow that one of Earth's snowiest cities gets.

I don't live in Philly currently, but I see the crime/shootings as a US thing. US cities have far too much crime, and it is sad. Looking at violent crime in Canadian cities and comparing it to even NYC (which is considered to be low for the US) is quite a contrast.
