relocation
Welcome to Philadelphia! The neighborhood closest to Penns Landing (Society Hill) happens to be quite expensive in terms of housing. Even the neighborhoods around it are pretty pricey. I live in Fishtown, which is a quiet/safe, up and coming neighborhood just north of where you will be working. A lot of younger professionals and artists are moving here because it's not expensive, not scary late at night like the other "hot neighborhood" (Northern Liberties) and still close to Center City. I've lived in Fishtown for almost four years and it's improving. I do not own a car (it's more of a liability than a benefit in a large city) and the bus route I use most passes back and forth right in front of Penns Landing on Columbus Blvd. From Fishtown it's a 10 minute bus ride. The only downside to Fishtown is the relative lack of services when compared to other neighborhoods. The grocery store situation here sucks (low quality produce and meats), but have learned to do big shopping trips to Trader Joes or Whole Foods and take a cab home which runs about $12. You'll find all the other essentials within walking distance. Bars and restaurants are lacking as well but find a trip into downtown using transit fine, but typically want to cab home if it's late, not due to public safety concerns but more the time hassle/tired. Let me know if I can help with any other information and good luck.
