I have read a lot of articles saying Philly may combine with MYC MSA. Do you thinking will happen?

It could happen in the future. Their urban areas and combined statical areas will mostly likely combine soon. Philly northeastern suburbs and New York City's southwestern suburbs are already integrated and cohesive.

2 Big and Influential cities with similar cultures. There metro areas so large and close the boundaries often overlap, and there is a high migration rate between the 2 metro areas. It is bound to combine to one metro area. Eventually, within 20-50 years, Philly will be to NYC, what Baltimore is to DC, mark my words.

Boston is a bit further to NYC then Philly is. Also their metro areas grew into different areas. Boston's metro is Eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. It doesnt even go into Connecticut. NYC metro is southern NY, northern NJ, northeastern PA, and southwestern CT. And Philly metro is southeastern PA, southern NJ , and northern Delaware. NYC and Philly metro areas overlap in NJ and PA, cities like Atlantic City, Trenton, and Allentown can be considered apart of both metros. NY and Philly metros are colliding, while NY metro and the Boston metro is growing away from each other.

Didn't the census board already say they won't do this?

I think that was on UA - but they postured that way - technically burlington county would already make a CSA connection

I believe that Baltimore & DC are recognized as separate MSAs, but a combined CSA.

I imagine that's what would happen to Philly & NY if anything.
It's all just technicalities.

Nobody cares about the suburbs or the MSA/CSA/UA/etc in real life.

It will always be New York City and Philadelphia as two great and distinct cities, that happen to be very close to one another.
People in the suburbs will pick either city to latch onto, as they've always done.
