Hi All,

After 30+ years of living in the city, the wife and I are finally making a move into the burbs. We're looking to settle down here for a long time so we prefer an area that is continuing to improve vs one that may seem to be on the decline.

Some other criterias that are important to us are:
- 30-35 minute drive to Bensalem, Center City, and NE Philly (We still want to live somewhat close to the city and visit family often in the northeast)
- Close proximity to shopping and convenience
- Decent nightlife (Bars, restaurants, etc.)

Some of the school districts I've researched that fit this are: Colonial, Wissahickon, Upper Dublin, Lower Moreland, and Abington.

Our search area is quite large and we'd like to narrow it down somewhat. Even though we live fairly close and have visited some of these towns on occasion, living there may have a completely different feel. So we're hoping for suggestions and advice on which town may suit us best and why.

Thanks!

I'd add horsham to the list of school districts.

But I'd look at:
Ambler/LG area and Huntingdon Valley. The 19002 zip code might fit the bill well given your price range.

The only place that comes to mind is Huntigdon Valley! Suits your criteria 100%. Safe, really good school district (consider Lower Moreland because HV covers couple school districts), def-ly not declining, close to NE, major hospitals, 20 minutes away from Bensalem. Minutes from charming Bryn Athyn.

Hi,

Welcome to the burbs! I recommend Upper Dublin Township. Its not quite as close to Bensalem as HV is but it is a wonderful school district, great community and the quaint town of Ambler, with great restaurants and pubs, is right next to it. Also you have Montgomerville and Warrington close by for shopping and for my favorite market WEGMANS!

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck with your search.

Have you considered New Hope? Great nightlife, amazing school districts.. Or maybe even Lambertville NJ? Or how about Princeton? I know we're in the PA forum, but those parts of NJ would also fit your needs.

Upper Dublin or Wissahickon, since you want some diversity.

Upper Dublin has got to be one of the least diverse school districts in the area. . .

Actually, UDHS is now about 25% people of color. As far as top-ranked suburban school districts go, that's pretty up there--certainly much higher than any of the other school district recommendations, except for Wissahickon, which is 64% white.

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Council Rock South, by contrast, is 94% white.
