I left my previous job in PA for another position. After I accepted the position, which was a nonprofit, they informed me that I they were denied funding for the position. I had never collected a paycheck from NJ.

Needless to say I went and filed a PA Claim for PA and the PA employer challenged the claim. I read the information and it said that I was eligible because I left the position to accept another job.

I also spoke with two different people at PA UC offices who confirmed I had an argument.

My question is this: Now that the previous employer is challenging this and it is going to a referee, do i stand a chance at winning the appeal?

Also how long does it take to meet with a referee (it has been about a month)?

Thanks for any insights.

Sorry to hear about this, here's my 2cents:

- Time for meeting with the referee: 30' - 45' if the previous employer doesn't show up, if they come, it will take longer for debate
- Chance for winning: slim, because you quit the current job for another job, the former employer didn't lay you off therefore they had no responsibility for UC, the new employer didn't hire you yet, so there's no responsibility either.

But if you prepare well and explain good enough to the referee and he/she likes you, you still can collect the UC.

Good luck,

well my situation was wacky with the UC referee

I decided to withdrawl my appeal because I agreed with the decision that I was not eligible for UC benefits and then was told that the referee denied my request to withdrawl my appeal?

I thought I was making everyone's job easier? Why do they want to tell me NO again when I heard it the first time?
