What do you think? Do these two counties still have the pastoral rep. that pulled suburbanites into "rural" suburbia? Which do you think has more unspoiled land for that Sunday drive in the country? Or has overbuilding and retail sprawl ruined it all? Do you think that sections of either constitute an affordable place to retire? Would love your thoughts on this.

One of the big problems IMO is the "white-collar flight" into the fringes of Lancaster County. So you get a bunch of ridiculous suburban subdivisions like Applecross which don't fit in with the surrounding landscape.

It's fine to dream of living in a house overlooking Lancaster County's rolling hills.... but buy a real farm house and fix it up instead of bringing more Toll Brothers junk out that way.

Would that I were in a physical position to do that now - but alas...I'm not. And also not into the 55 plus vibe.
Yes, cookie-cutter, plastic housing developments are indeed disgusting, but ya never know when you might stumble across a small, brick or stone older gem in moderate condition

Exactly! For the price of a small cookie cutter in Lancaster County, you can easily buy a moderate-condition ranch or split and literally gut/remodel every facet.

quiet , cheap , old town on the susquehana. cheap but not dangerous , close to lamcaster city but on the scenic river. not from there no. i like chesco better than lancaster but its generally more expensive. lancaster l
(once part of chester) is most attractove along the river imo.

Hmm...didn't know Lancaster was once part of Chester county. Interesting. I appreciate your post. Now my only other questions regarding this would be: Is the Susquehana a clean river (activities and such)? and is Columbia near any of Pa's infamous nuclear facilities?

Fabulous.
Gerania, how've you been? I've been in Kennett Square the last couple of years and hate it, though it's becoming more and more popular. The transplants are robots with attitude.
