We are considering buying a duplex in Glenside in Cheltenham township. We currently live in bucks co near Doylestown and are only vaguely familiar with Glenside and the surrounding area. We are considering buying a house as an investment property. We would live in one unit while renting out the other for a few years before (probably) moving closer to family and renting out both units. We see this as an investment for our future but are unsure of the area. It seems like a nice and safe enough place and a great location since it's so accessible to the city via the r5. We also like that Arcadia University is right there so we feel it would have a steady flow of renters with the students in the area.

However we have heard that Arcadia University is in trouble and may close down? We can't find anything to back this up so we aren't sure, but if it did, it seems this would be bad for the area and bad for real estate. Obviously it's important to us to have a good rental market, but if we ever had to sell for some reason, we want to feel good about future resell value as well.

If anyone can give any insight in to the area, both currently and in the future, we would appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

Don't know where you heard that, but that would never happen. Even if in financial trouble Temple University would take the campus over in a heartbeat.
