I have seen Maryland and Massachussetts and love them. I will be coming to Philadelphia and the Southern New Jersey area in late November. Any suggestions to someone who has never been there? I know there is history about the liberty bell and independence, so that is on my list to see right now.

Your very first stop should be the Independence Visitor's Center where you can get free maps and ask questions and pick up all kinds of brochures.

I'd strongly recommend this website: Visit Philadelphia - Official Visitor and Tourism Site for Philadelphia - visitphilly.com. It's a fantastic resource for visitors.

Also maybe explore places like New Hope just north of Philly or the Brandywine valley - the rolling hills are very pretty that time of year - no offense to South Jersey but the PA side of the burbs have some very nice scenery

Also check out the Barnes and Art Museum (or even Rodin) if you like Art

And grab brunch at Parc on Rittenhouse Sq and definitely check out the Reading Terminal Market

Hope you enjoy

I know it may sound cheesy, but I recommend that one of the first things you do is hop on one of the open air tour buses. For $27, you'll get a 90 minute overview of the central part of the city. With that under your belt, you have a good feel for all of the central neighborhoods and attractions which can help you plan the rest of your visit.

Enjoy - we visited in 2009 and ended up moving here!

The Mutter museum is a museum of medical oddities and specimens. It is definitely not for everyone but if that seems like something interesting to you it's something unique worth checking out.

Do the mutter + upenn museum combo. Also find a late night show etc for the night to do something local.

Will your visit coincide with the US holiday, Thanksgiving? Philadelphia has a big parade on Thanksgiving.

In South Jersey visit Haddonfield. The founder was a young Quaker girl, Elizabeth Haddon. Check the town website. The merchants list events in the shopping district. During the Christmas shopping season that includes candlelight shopping.
